IMI Kolkata conducted its first Analytics Summit of the Academic Year 2021 on the morning of 24th July 2021. The summit which revolved around the topic “Future Vision: Unfurling the Leaves of IT Industry” comprised of our eminent panelists, Dr. Ankita Singh, Senior VP & Global Head, HR, Admin, Travel & IT, CIGNEX Datamatics, Ms. Sreemoyee Ghosh Dastidar, Head of IT, Business Applications, Marico Ltd., Mr. Tushar Vagal, CIO & Digital Head, Larsen & Toubro Realty, Mr. Ajinkya Jadhav, Director of Business Development, Zenlayer, Dr. Rajashekhar Karjagi, Head, Analytics Solutions & POCs, Wipro Limited and Mr. Bhaskar Jha, Dy General Manager – ERP Modernization, HPCL.

New business models and sweeping technology change, including AI, are driving the need for a data and analytics-centric culture. The Analytics Summit was a must-attend conference for all data and analytics enthusiasts willing to gain the skills to rewire their culture for an AI-augmented future.With this introduction, Dr. Boudhayan Ganguly, Associate Professor, MIS and Analytics, IMI Kolkata welcomed our panel of keynote speakersonboard to deliver their valuable insights.
Mr. Tushar Vagal from Larsen & Toubro Realty began his speech by highlighting how information technology would help in estimating the perfect demand for commercial land, post the Covid-19 era. He further discussed that real estate owners and operators across almost every asset class are considering several potential longer-term effects of the Corona virus outbreak and the required changes that these shifts are likely to bring.“It is very easy to collect data, it is the analysis which is difficult.” said Dr. Ankita Singh from CIGNEX Datamatics who emphasized the importance of data analytics in machine-to-machine platforms. Ms. Sreemoyee Ghosh Dastidar from Marico Ltd. highlighted that there are so many ways data analytics can be useful and for the most part the how depends on the organization, but at its core it’s all about helping that organization make the best decisions to get their business where it needs to be. “What are the innovations we can do in packaging so that we as an FMCG company become conscious in the eyes of the customer?” asked our eminent panelist.
Dr. Rajashekhar Karjagifrom Wipro Limitedexplained the intense role of analytics in forecasting by giving a brief on the latest model, the Resource-Location-Skill set model developed in his organization, which helps them segregate more than 2000 skill sets and 138 cities to forecast the manpower required as per skill set and location. “AI is the crux being used in the IT industry irrespective of the field you are in.”, said Mr. Bhaskar Jha from HPCLas he threw some light on the current trends emerging these days. IoT, Big data, wearable technology namely the smart watches, safety of data storage in block chain technology, cloud computing, natural language processing technology, dynamics of face recognition and working of drones were some of the topics which he spoke on.
Highly motivated by Mr. Bhaskar Jha’s experience, Mr. Ajinkya Jadhav continued the discussion on the same lines explaining the relevance with the current technological trends. “We all use cloud computing in some or the other way.” said Mr. Ajinkya Jadhav as he delved deeper into the conversation demonstrating the relation between the role of Data Analytics and our heavy reliance on various internet related products such as Google, Netflix and YouTube to name a few.
The summit was an insightful one, giving the students a flavor of the current developments in the IT industry along with the vast range of applications of analytics, thus enabling the young minds to strategize their own solutions to problems. The summit was concluded with the vote of thanks offered to all the eminent panellists by Dr. Boudhayan Ganguly.
