Invitation is part of an agreement signed with Chinese university
Waking up at sunrise every morning, two teams of enthusiastic students from IMI-Kolkata are preparing to participate in themen’s and women’s volleyball games at the South and Southeast Asia College Students Culture and Sports week, which will be held from May 22 to May 31 at Kunming, China. IMI-Kolkata is the only Indian business school that has been invited to participate in this international tournament organised by the Kunming University of Science and Technology.
Students of IMI-Kolkata are greatly excited to be representing India in the games. They are participating in the tournament as part of a cooperation agreement IMI-K signed with the Kunming University of Science and Technology, China, which allows for student and faculty exchange, research and other developmental activities.
Faculty in-charge Dr Sarojakshya Chatterjee, who is accompanying the team to China, said: “The team’s spirit and enthusiasm are to be seen to be believed.” The team’s accompanying coach, Sabu Francis, himself an accomplished player and former captain of the Indian volleyball team, said the teams were preparing very hard to meet the Chinese challenge.
The team’s executive officer, Karabi Bhattacharya Rao, said that she was looking forward to not just winning, but also to an exchange of ideas and culture between Indian and Chinese students. Dr Arindam Banik, Director, IMI-Kolkata, said that such invitations demonstrated the global linkages of IMI-Kolkata, which are developed by the institute’s ability to develop and disseminate knowledge driven by its focus on research, teaching, consulting and training.
