Induction Programme for New Recruits of Axis Bank – Taking forward the Induction Programmes of six days duration for new recruits of AXIS BANK which commenced from 26th January, 2015, the training of 6th and 7th batch aggregating 54 participants were conducted during March 9-14 with excellent feedback. IMI Kolkata is the first private institute to organise such a programme for a top ranking private sector bank.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

On International Yoga Day, IMI-Kolkata conducted an event in which students were taught Suryanamaskar and Padma Sadhna postures. The instructor, Swapnil Kumar has been associated with Art of living. The event was successfully organised by the Cultural Committee of IMI-Kolkata.

PGDM 2015-17 Orientation

The 22nd of June marked a milestone in the lives of students who joined IMI-Kolkata batch of 2015-17. The orientation kicked off with welcoming words from our esteemed Director Dr. Arindam Banik, who greeted the students of the new batch.
The chief guest for the orientation was Ms. Alokananda Roy is a dance educationist, choreographer and social worker. Ms. Roy is presently working with the convicts of the Presidency Correctional Home, Kolkata and other correctional homes of West Bengal in ‘Dance Therapy’. Her dialog on how dance provided an opportunity for the convicts to express themselves, made them hopeful and be part of something constructive motivated everyone present in the auditorium.
Mr. Kamal Aggarwal, Partner, Ernst & Young -S R Batliboi & Co. was the Key Note speaker, deliberated upon the corporate expectations from a Masters in Business Administration passout. He stressed on the qualities that students must imbibe and build upon during their stay at IMI, focusing on how empathy, self-awareness and social skills build great leaders.
Mr. Sunil Bhandari, Executive Director, RP-SG Group shared anecdotes of his own college life and how important it is to break away from our comfort zone and bubble by being inquisitive about things. Mr Subhasis Mitra, Executive Director, CESC Ltd., highlighted IMI-K achievements despite being a relatively new institution.


IMI-Kolkata was pleased to welcome Mr. Suraj Kumar, Vice-President, Axis Bank Kolkata to address the batch of 2015-17 on managing organization expectation. Being an HR professional, he believes the key to success is the ability to apply knowledge. Being successful requires clarity of thought and the ability to groom oneself. He emphasized on the blend of soft skills and learning.
Mr. Kumar stressed on the importance of pushing one’s limits beyond capacity. He accentuated the importance of in depth knowledge on a practical level, as no one walking out of a B-school directly becomes a business manager. One needs to understand and excel in different operations of a firm in order for them to manage it. He concluded the session with an inspirational video of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan reciting one of his father’s compositions, inspiring us to never give up and persevere till we reach our goal.


A group of four students, Li Gen, Xie Xiangwei, Zhang Qiurong and Zhao Lei, from Sichuan University, China arrived at International Management Institute, Kolkata. IMI has campuses in Kolkata, Delhi and Bhubaneswar.
The students, who will be studying Management as per an agreement between IMI-Kolkata and Sichuan University, are staying at the Alipore campus under the mentorship of Dr Tirthankar Nag, Dean,IMI-Kolkata. According to Dr. Nag, the course has been specially designed keeping in view IMI Kolkata’s expertise in East Asian Management and Research, which empowers students to apply what they have learnt in the Chinese context.
Welcoming the overseas students, Professor Arindam Banik, Director, IMI-Kolkata says, “This is the first batch of Chinese students arriving in Kolkata to participate in higher management courses. We are delighted that Kolkata, which was once an internationally renowned centre for higher education, is on its way to regaining its past reputation. This exchange will be mutually beneficial for the two countries.”. IMI Kolkata recently signed several academic agreements with leading universities in China, France and Bangladesh, to help exchange of faculty and students on a long-term basis.
On behalf of the four visiting Chinese students, Li Gen said on Tuesday, “It’s a privilege to be in a great city like Kolkata and we are looking forward to experience its rich heritage as much as possible during our two-month long stay here. We expect to make many new friends and interact with them on topics like the Chinese economy and civilization. We are proud that we are in the city where Rabindranath Tagore was born. He continues to have a significant influence on Chinese scholars and creative writers.”
