IMI-Kolkata, under the aegis of its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized a two-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “AI Literacy for Higher Education” from April 4th to 5th, 2025. The event aimed to familiarize faculty members with emerging trends and practical applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the academic ecosystem.

The sessions were led by Mr. Yazad Anlesaria, General Manager, Technology & IT at Saregama India Ltd., who brought with him a wealth of industry experience and insights.

Day 1: Introductory Sessions on AI

The programme commenced with a 60-minute session introducing the fundamentals of AI, covering:

  • Generative and Predictive AI
  • The significance of AI in today’s world and its transformative potential
  • Real-world use cases illustrating how AI can complement human skills and expedite the development of cost-effective, industry-ready solutions

Mr. Anlesaria emphasized the growing importance of AI in academia and industry and highlighted how educators and students can benefit from adopting AI tools.

Day 2: Technical Sessions and Demonstrations

The second day focused on hands-on and application-based insights:

    1. Introduction to a self-help system trained on curriculum-specific content to aid student learning outside classroom hours
    2. Tools for faculty and students to create assignments, quizzes, and flashcards—categorized by topics and chapters—based on the trained material

  1. Classroom Aid
    1. Potential uses of recorded classroom audio to:
      1. Provide automated summarization
      2. Capture key discussion points and notes
      3. Analyze Q&A sessions for:
        1. Classroom engagement
        2. Suggestions for improving future classes
    2. Offer students quick references for revision

  1. Predictive AI for Student Monitoring
    1. Demonstrated how predictive models can help identify at-risk students based on performance data, enabling early interventions
  1. Parent Interaction Tools
    1. Introduction to an on-demand AI-powered chatbot for parents, designed to:
      1. Explain the student’s learning progress
      2. Address queries related to syllabus, performance, and academic development

The FDP proved to be an enlightening and highly interactive initiative, equipping faculty members with essential AI tools and perspectives to enhance the quality of education delivery. The sessions also highlighted practical ways to integrate AI in curriculum design, student evaluation, and personalized learning.
