IMI Kolkata hosted Dr. Subhasish Dey, Associate Professor and Director of UG Student Opportunities in the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick, UK for a Research Seminar on “Religiocracy, Populocracy, and Electoral Success: The Case of West Bengal.”

Dr. Dey highlighted the use of novel data covering six elections, employing Python and geocoded data for analysis. He presented his central hypothesis: Populocracy has triumphed over religiocracy in sustaining electoral politics in West Bengal. The seminar explored the factors influencing electoral outcomes, supported by visualizations to aid understanding.

In conclusion, Dr. Dey posited that West Bengal represents a tacit religiocracy with active populocracy.
