Data Analytics and Research Centre will act as a centre of excellence at International Management Institute, Kolkata. The primary objective of CDSM is to disseminate the knowledge related to Data Science and its applications in the academia and Industry. It will work in collaboration with stakeholders (Students, faculty, Industry Professionals, Govt. & Private Organizations etc.) in academia and industry to promote high quality research, skill upgradation and capacity building so that they can utilize these skills in their work environment.
Need of the centre
Data science is a process that empowers better business decision-making through interpreting, modeling, and deployment. This helps in visualizing data that is understandable for business stakeholders to build future roadmaps and trajectories. Implementing Data Science for businesses is now a mandate for any business looking to grow. Data Science enables companies to efficiently understand gigantic data from multiple sources and derive valuable insights to make smarter data-driven decisions. Data Science is widely used in various industry domains, including marketing, healthcare, finance, banking, policy work, and more. Further speaking about demand, there is an immense need for individuals with data science skills. The organizational importance of Data Science is continuously increasing. According to a study by marketsandmarkets.com, the global Data Science market is expected to grow to $115 billion by 2023. According to IDC, by 2025, global data will grow to 175 zettabytes. According to AIM Research in India, there were 137870 jobs in data science in June, 2021 and witnessed a 47.1% increase in open job requirements as compared to June 2020. India contributed to 9.4% of the total global analytics job openings, a rise of 7.2% in January 2020. In addition, recruitment services firm Michael Page India’s “The Humans of Data Science” report revealed that data science will roughly create 11.5 million job openings by 2026. LinkedIn’s emerging jobs report ranked data science as fastest growing globally and has witnessed a growth of over 650% since 2012 and the market slated to grow from $37.9 billion in 2019 to $230.80 billion in 2026.
Data science is high in demand and explains how digital data is transforming businesses and helping them make sharper and critical decisions therefore data scientists are high in demand today. This demand is due to the need of skilled professionals who could wrangle with data and help make discoveries and ultimately empower organizations to make data-driven decisions. CDSM will provide the analytical skills related to data science to make them industry-ready ready prepare individuals to be scientists using their computer science, statistics, and mathematical skills to analyze, process, interpret, and store data.

- Ruchi organized a talk by Mr. Havish Madhavpaty on “Enterprise Resource Planning” for the PGDM students.
- Organized an event Dissect: Bring-O-Pedia during the annual fest of IMI Kolkata for the participants of several institutions.
- Created content and posted on the social media platform viz. LinkedIn on the emerging topics for wider reach and interactions.
- The center organizes interaction sessions on various topics of data analytics to create awareness and to showcase the application in other domains of management.
- Ruchi played a key role in establishing a student chapter in association with the Analytics Society of India (ASI) (Managed by DCAL, a subsidiary of IIM Bangalore) at IMI Kolkata. The launch of the student chapter was graced by Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Dean, IIM Bangalore.
- Avinash K Shrivastava visited the University of Hamburg, Germany to present a paper titled “ OPTIMAL SOFTWARE SCHEDULING DECISION USING MULTI-ATTRIBUTE UTILITY THEORY” at OR 2023- Decision Support & Choice-Based Analytics for a Disruptive World held during August 29 to September 1, 2023.
- Avinash was invited as a Keynote speaker during the Capacity Building Programme for Faculty Members on Data Science during May 19, 2023 – June 01, 2023 (Online Mode) organized by IIITDM Jabalpur.
- Avinash Conducted an MDP on “Data Analytics for Managers” in Bangladesh during 3rd-5th November,2023 for senior level managers of various firms.
- Avinash chaired a session on “Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning” during 2nd International Conference on Recent Trends in Engineering, Technology and Business Management (ICRTETBM 2023) (Sustainability, Digitization, and Business Operations) held on 22nd-24th Feb 2023 in association with 23rd INBUSH ERA WORLD SUMMIT 2023 at Amity University, Noida.
