IMI Kolkata Centre for Financial Market Studies has published its first Working Paper entitled “How Well Are the Indian Banks Managing Their NPAs? A Comparative Analysis” authored by Dr. Paramita Mukherjee (Working Paper No. CFMS 13-001). The paper compares the recent performance of Indian public and private sector banks in terms of different aspects of management of non-performing assets, viz. size, creation, recovery and provision. The banks are then ranked in terms of those parameters by applying percentile analysis.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR PGDM BATCH 2014- 2016 COMMENCES AT IMI-KOLKATA

Every year, a new batch of beginners and learners go through the Orientation Programme in B- Schools around this time. The orientation programme at IMI-Kolkata is designed to set a different pace altogether.

The Orientation Programme for PGDM batch 2014- 2016 started on 23 June at IMI-Kolkata. A Six day Orientation Programme is aimed to orient the students to B- School approach and Corporate practices.

The Chief Guest for the occasion, Shri Gautam Ghose, noted film maker, cinematographer and director left the audience spellbound. He took the stage with his usual eloquence and encouraged students to reign in creativity in all aspects of life. Shri Ghose shared with students, anecdotes, real life incidents, work output/ input research by Scandinavian countries to drive home one point –“tales are nothing but finer realities of life”. He mentioned the role of case studies and live examples are nothing but finer realities –“Redefined”. Very correctly he expressed, “Context might change but concept remains the same.

Mr Abhijit Agarwal, Associate Director KPMG, a young and dynamic leader was the Keynote Speaker. He spoke on the concept of, “edge over others”. He urged the students to bring out the best in them by creating the point of differentiation. Students should invent new ways of doing business, new ways of dealing with business proposals for new ways means embracing greater innovation. Innovation is nothing but inner vision.

Director Designate, Dr Arindam Banik, a thorough Academician and Researcher took the students through the journey of an academic legacy called, International Management Institute. The new beginners are on board and the ardent responsibility of the Faculty Team at IMI-Kolkata is to make them industry ready.

Executive Director and Group Company Secretary, Mr Subhasis Mitra graced the occasion and wished the fresh batch all success in the days to come.

Dr Tirthankar Nag, Dean (Academics) focused on the rigour of academics at IMI-Kolkata. An IIM A alumnus himself, Dr Nag reiterated that there are no two ways in IMI-Kolkata for two things, Academics and Discipline.

The whole day long programme was well attended by Students, Parents, Alumni and Industry Guests.

Evenings were lighter with Fusion Music group performance by Soumya Music. The entire team of students, parents, corporates, faculty and staff bonded well over dinner.

A foundation programme covering basic competencies will be conducted from 24 June to 27 June. All the four days would have industry speakers sharing their professional experiences with students and making them realize, “What took you here will not take you there”


Workshop on Effective Vigilance

Jointly conducted by IMI Kolkata and Vigilance Study Circle Kolkata 24, 25 and 26 July 2014

Mr Rakesh Sethi Chairman& Managing Director Allahabad Bank inaugurated the Workshop at IMI Kolkata Campus. Mr Debashish Sarkar CVO Allahabad Bank and General Secretary Vigilance Study Circle Kolkata gave the welcome address and touched upon the nuances of Vigilance. While quoting Kautilya, Mr Rakesh Sethi also reiterated the fact that, no innocent person should be punished in effectively delivering vigilance. Preventive vigilance is more important than punitive vigilance.

Dr Arindam Banik, Director IMI Kolkata welcomed the dignitaries and addressed the issue of Vigilance in Emerging Economies. Dr Banik spoke about Frauds in Credit Cards and Commodity Exchanges, that is rampant in today’s fast growing economies. It’s a huge challenge managing growth with prudence. The role of Vigilance is more of compliance then prevention, Dr Banik reiterated.

The three day programme would see experts from the field like, Mr V Ramachandran, Former CTE and Director General DRSO, Mr P Sharath Kumar, Mr P C Ojha, Vice President Vigilance, Balmer Lawrie Ltd, Mr Sukamal Chandra Basu, Former CMD Bank of Maharashtra, Mr Sujit Ghosh, former Jt- Director, CBI and many more.

The workshop is attended by CVOs and very senior officers from Vigilance Department of Public Sector Organization .

The huge response has encouraged IMI and the vigilance study circle in going ahead with advanced programmes of Vigilance.

IAA Research Foundation – Annual Seminar

Annual Seminar of the IAA Research Foundation In collaboration with International Management Institute Kolkata On Enterprise Risk Management

The Annual Seminar of the IAA Research Foundation (IAARF) in collaboration with International Management Institute Kolkata on “Enterprise Risk Management” was held at the International Management Institute Kolkata Campus on Saturday, July 26th, 2014. The event was graced by dignitaries like Dr. Arindam Banik, Director-IMI Kolkata; Mr. Rajarshi Banerjee, Executive Director(Finance) and CFO, CESC Ltd; Dr. Bhabatosh Banerjee, President, IAARF; Mr. Amit Kumar Sen, CMD, East India Pharmaceuticals Works Ltd and VP, IAARF; Dr. Tirthankar Nag, Dean (Academics), IMI Kolkata etc. Dr. Arindam Banik initiated the inaugural session with his welcome address touching upon the different types of risks faced by an Enterprise in the contemporary world. Mr. Rajarshi Banerjee, the Chief Guest of the seminar, deliberated on the theme “Enterprise Risk Management” and focused on its relationship with Sustainability. He stressed on the fact that from strategic and cultural point of view, risk assessment is mandatory for companies. He pointed out that risk management should be an ongoing process. Some other delegates presented papers on different aspects of “Enterprise Risk Management”. It was in true terms an enriching session for all.


Leading Change in the Creative Industry

Dr. Bedabrata Pain was invited at International Management Institute Kolkata on 1st August, 2014 for his deliberation on ‘Leading Change in the Creative Industry’ as a guest lecturer for ‘Managing Organizational Change’ and ‘Organizational Behaviour’ courses. Also in conversation with Dr.Devjani Chatterjee (faculty, OB&HR, IMI Kolkata) in an interview, he shares many insights into the leadership styles, communication techniques and entrepreneurial proactiveness of an innovation leader.

Dr. Bedabrata Pain was an award winning scientist with NASA for 15 years. He received his PhD degree from Columbia University, New York in 1992, and served as the senior research scientist in NASA from 1993. He quit NASA in 2009 to follow his passion – film making. His directorial debut film ‘Chittagong’ (2012) won four National Awards in India, the highest award of its kind. He is also one of the inventors of CMOS digital imaging technology that enabled the digital camera revolution and is now used in our day to day life – from cellphone cameras to movie cameras, to those in space telescopes. Dr.Pain holds credit to over 87 patents, and more than 150 research papers and he is inducted to the US Space Technology Hall of Fame. Earlier, Dr.Pain was the executive producer of internationally acclaimed and national best film award winning ‘Amu’ (2005) that premiered in Berlin and Toronto Film Festivals and also the principal researcher for the documentary called ‘Lifting the Veil’ (1997) on the impact of globalization in India, and the writer of the book titled ‘Behind the events in Kashmir’ (1991).

Author Guidelines
  • Submission of the abstract will be made in Microsoft Word format to the Conference Management Committee, not later than September 10, 2014.
  • The electronic copy should be mailed to imikmarcon14@imi-k.edu.in
  • Authors will be notified of acceptance by September 15, 2014.
  • Abstracts will be blind reviewed and only those abstracts approved by the reviewers will be selected. Selection of papers for presentation will be based on extended abstracts (1000 – 1500 words) along with key references. The author(s) should clearly mention under what sub-theme of the conference the abstract is to be included. The author(s) should strictly adhere to the above guidelines.
Best Paper Award

Best Paper Award will be given to appreciate original and commendable contribution to the notion of “Emerging Markets, Evolving Perspectives”.

Publication Opportunities

Selected papers will be published in the much-acclaimed Global Business Review, Sage Publications (ISSN: 0972-1509). Additionally, selected papers will be published in an edited book by a renowned multinational publication house.All abstracts will be published in the Conference Proceedings for circulation among registered participants as well as a larger audience.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission

50% or equivalent CGPA Marks in graduation from any AIU Approved university. Those graduating in 2015 with results available by 30 September 2015 may also apply.

Shortlisting will be done on the basis of CAT / GMAt Score, Academic Performance in Graduation and Class XII & X.

Selection will be done on the basis of past academic performance, work experience, psychometric test, essay writing, extempore speaking and personal interview.
